Commonly known as mother-in-law’s tongue for its sharp leaves, the snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) is a stylish and practical indoor addition to the office or home. Its long, sword-like leaves make a statement, and it’s known as one of the hardiest plant varieties. It is also a fantastic air filter, removing toxins to improve indoor air quality.
Description:
The snake plant has tall, sword-like leaves that grow upright. It is a flowering plant, but tends not to flower indoors. The varieties of this succulent plant include gold- or white-edged leaves, or green- and grey-mottled leaves.
Light:
Keep in bright, indirect light.
Water:
Allow to dry out completely between watering.
Soil:
Plant in well-draining soil.
Fertiliser:
Feed it a mild fertiliser during the growing season (not in winter).
Expert tip:
The snake plant can easily be divided during repotting.
