Description
The majority of these species are found in nature as wild mangoes. The genus belongs to the cashew family Anacardiaceae. Mangoes are native to South Asia from where the “common mango” or “Indian mango”, Mangifera indica, has been distributed worldwide to become one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the tropics.
Mango trees make handsome landscape specimens and shade trees. They are erect and a fast growing canopy tree. It is considered a large tree as it can grow up to 20m tall but can be maintained to your desires specifications. They are well aged with some specimens known to be over 300 years old and still fruiting.
In deep soil the taproot descends to a depth of 6m with wide-spreading feeder roots that send down many anchor roots which penetrate for several meters however the roots are NOT destructive.
