Feeding your Teddy Bear Hamster

Your teddy bear hamster’s menu should include a staple diet, consisting of a hamster mix, as well as some supplementary treats. Daro Fruity hamster mix is formulated to meet the basic nutritional needs of hamsters. It typically includes a variety of seeds, grains and pellets. Keep a small bowl filled with fresh hamster mix in your hamster’s cage and check it at least once a day. Teddy bear hamsters have a habit of stuffing their cheeks full of food and then hiding the food elsewhere, so you may need to remember when you last filled their bowl.

In addition to your hamster’s staple diet of hamster mix, you should also offer some fresh fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis. Some of the best vegetables to offer hamsters include spinach, lettuce and carrots. Hamsters are likely to accept all kinds of fruit, but they often show preference for apples and grapes. You can also offer your hamster a small amount of nuts and fresh grains as a special treat.

Teddy bear hamsters are avid eaters, so you need to be careful not to overfeed them or they may become obese. Offer hamster food mix on a daily basis, and do not overdo it on supplementary foods. Only offer your hamster a small amount of fruit or vegetables, and clean up any uneaten portions of the food after a few hours so they do not rot.  In addition to providing your hamster with food, you also need to make sure it has a constant supply of fresh water. Fill the feeder bottles with fresh cold water daily. Daro Hamster tonic can be added to the water as a nutritional supplement.

The average lifespan for a teddy bear hamster is two to three years. It is possible, but rare, for these animals to live as long as five years. Teddy bear hamsters are typically weaned from their mothers when they are between three and four weeks old. These hamsters reach adulthood when they are about four months old.

Remember to never tease your hamster and enjoy them for the cuddly pets they can be!
