Celery

CeleryCelery originated from the Mediterranean coastal area. Celery is a anual grown from seed (sown on site or in trays) during spring and autumn. It is a very hardy plant that grows in full sun in rich soil. It self sows freely and must be kept well watered.

When planting celery the soil should be prepared with compost, bonemeal and well rotted kraal manure..It can also be grown in pots along with other herbs and leafy vegetable plants eg.lettuce.

Pots should be prepared with potting soil, drainage stones and bone meal. Plants should be fed with organic plant food like seagrow and bounce back once a month. Celery can be used for soups, salads and the seeds are used for flavouring pickles and bread.
